How to Organize a Vegetarian Potluck

Having a potluck can be a great way to meet like minded people and share recipes. If you are a vegetarian and want to experience different examples of vegetarian cooking, then why not throw a specifically vegetarian potluck! There are a few things you should do to prepare for throwing your first potluck.

Firstly, you need to decide how many people you are going to invite. If you go to an evening or cookery class, why not invite some of your other classmates along as well? If yours is a specifically vegetarian potluck, then the chances are that the people you are inviting are also vegetarians. However, you should make sure that everybody who is coming is aware that they should only bring vegetarian food. You could even think about sending out printed invitations with all the details on them. If it is the summertime, why not have the potluck outside?

You should also decide whether you will be supplying the cutlery and plates for your guests or whether you want people to bring their own. At least if people bring their own then you won’t have as much washing up to do afterwards! If you are having your potluck somewhere outside then it may be easier to provide paper plates that can be recycled once you have finished with them. On the downside, there may be an extra expense involved if you are having your potluck somewhere like a park as you may have to rent a space like a gazebo where you can throw it. You could cover your costs by asking each person to chip in a nominal amount or simply have a donation box present at the potluck for people to give anonymously.

The most important aspect of any potluck is a relaxed atmosphere. Make your guests feel at home wherever they are, and enjoy the food!
