They may instead, however, prove dangerous — with many familiar items offering pesticides and their effects.

Celery

Achieving a balanced lifestyle requires vitamins — and fewer vegetables boast better nutritional values than celery. This stalk provides essential calcium, fiber and more: ensuring that bodies remain energized without receiving unnecessary calories. It also, however, offers the highest concentration of pesticides (with over 96 percent of products affected). Almost 70 varieties of chemicals are used daily on this food.

Peaches

The taste of a peach is unmistakable: a slow slide of satisfaction. It is among the most popular of fruits, offering slices of pure summer. Its unique flavor comes with a cost, however. Over 60 kinds of pesticides contaminate this item. 86 percent of all stock is tainted (often with at least two different chemicals on each individual peach).

Apples

Proverbs declare apples the most valuable of fruits (providing wards against physicians and their examinations). Any medicinal reward is undone, however, by the startling amount of pesticides found in each bite. 47 types of chemicals are used on these items, resulting in the contamination of 93 percent of all produce.

The quest for an organic lifestyle is noble. It simply demands an understanding that not all goods are worthwhile simply because they’re not drenched in grease.

Pesticides Linked to Illnesses

For organic consumers, the perk of eating foods that do not use pesticides during their growth process is a major perk.  Research, although most has been done recently, suggests that many diseases are linked to pesticide use.  A wide range of illnesses and cancers has been investigated and evidence supports a link between inorganic foods’ growing methods and these sicknesses. As consumers become more aware of this evidence, organic food growers expect to experience an incline in their products’ sales.

Cancers have been linked to pesticide use.  Childhood cancer rates are on the rise.  The most common cancers that may be caused by pesticide exposure are leukemia, brain cancer, lymphoma, and testicular/ovarian cancer.  Adults are also at greater risk when they reside in areas that are known for inorganic farming.  Because of methods used to grow this kind of produce, people encounter airborne pesticides on a daily basis.

Birth defects and problems with reproduction have risen in recent years.  Although documentation of these problems has not been linked directly to pesticide use, scientists suspect pesticides have contributed to these incidents.  Whether through food, direct pesticide contact, or exposure through a variety of farming materials, chlorpyrifos will cause defects in fetuses.  It is the most common pesticide on produce but is also used to kill fleas, termites, and roaches.  The percentage of children with limb reduction defects or cleft palates rises significantly for mothers that reside in areas with heavy pesticide use.

Asthma has been observed in farmers that use pesticides on their produce as well.  Documentation supports the rise in asthmatic symptoms such as heavy and difficult breathing, wheezing, and uncontrollable coughing.  Pesticides can also be present on clothing and household items, so the increase in asthma can occur in family members of farmers or those who have direct contact with pesticides.

Foods that Can Be Brought as Non-Organic

While it might sound as if you are more health conscience if you are purchasing foods that are organic compared to foods that are non-organic, there are certain foods that you can actually get away with purchasing the non-organic variety.

Almost every type of fruit or vegetable will come with an organic label on it. However, that does not always mean that it is completely different from the non-organic variety. In fact, there are several fruits and vegetables that can be purchased as non-organic. These fruits and vegetables are just as safe as the organic variety only cheaper.

Here is a look at the various types of fruits and vegetables that you can get away with purchasing non-organic.

Bananas. There are tons of organic and non-organic bananas on the market. However, you can get the same nutritional benefits from a non-organic banana as an organic banana. If you are worried about pesticides and such being used, the banana peel protects the inside from any pesticides. So unless you plan on eating the peel you will not ingest any chemicals.

Pineapples. Pineapples are another fruit that have a protective barrier from pesticides. The thick, spiny shell protects the inside of the pineapple from any type of pesticide.

Kiwis. Kiwis have a thick outer barrier that will protect it from anything that is used. However, it is usually recommended that you wash before eating just to make sure that all of the chemicals are off of it.

Asparagus. This vegetable is widely known for its lack of pests. Therefore farmers are less likely to use pesticides to attack pests.

Cabbage. Cabbage is another vegetable that is widely known for its lack of pests that attack it. Just like the previous vegetable there is less of a chance of having the farmers and growers use a type of pesticide on the product.

Foods You Should Always Buy Organic

It might be tempting when you are in the grocery store to consider purchasing a non-organic type of fruit or vegetable. The price difference between organic and non-organic can be eye popping and cause you to consider the cheaper alternative. However, recent studies have shown that there are certain types of fruits and vegetables that should never be brought as non-organic.

The difference between organic and non-organic foods comes down to the process of growing these fruits and vegetables. Many non-organic farmers use fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals to grow their plans. Many of these chemicals have been known to cause a number of health and environmental problems. Organic farmers allow the fruits and vegetables to grow naturally and if any type of chemicals are used they all come from a natural setting.

A recent study went out and collected certain samples of various fruits and vegetables that are offered at the grocery store. These fruits and vegetables were then swabbed and taken to a lab to see exactly how many pesticides were found on the vegetables and fruits. The results were surprising.

Nectarines were found to contain the largest amount of pesticides from all the fruits and vegetables tested. Over 97% of the nectarines that were tested contained some type of chemicals or pesticides that would not wash off. These chemicals are believed to go directly into the system after a person eats the food.

The other types of fruits and vegetables that were found to contain pesticides and chemicals include: celery, pears, cherries, apples, peaches, strawberries, bell peppers and raspberries. The number of pesticides found on these types of fruits and vegetables ranges from 94% with celery stalks to 59% of raspberries tested.

With the results of these findings it is no wonder that scientists and health officials recommend always buying these types of fruits and vegetables as organic.
